Cooking class with chef Clarita Venegas

Actualizado: 25 jun

The class was in her home in Estanquillos, around 15 minutes from Atenas downtown. The recipe we prepared was rice and beans, a traditional Costa Rican Caribbean dish.

The cooking class was a lot of fun. The class is for people who enjoy cooking and there were a lot of people and a lot of food. The meal we prepared was fried plantains , rice and beans with chili and coconut milk, chicken and salad with tomatoes, lettuce and carrots. The chicken had salsa and chili, and in a blender, we added peppers to the sauce with the chicken. With the rice and beans, the main ingredient was coconut milk, which gave it it’s taste.

Thanks to the class, I learned how to cut small onions and how to make plantains on the stove. I observed how to make chicken and how to mix ingredients to make dinner.

In the future, I want to make this meal at home in the United States. I learned the important ingredients for making rice and beans, and how to make plantains at home. I liked these plantains because they remind me of the bananas we make at home.

When the rice was made, it took an hour to cook because it has so many ingredients, and it needs to be cooked well. I learned that it takes time for the rice to be made and that you can add any ingredient, including peppers, chili, and most importantly, coconut milk to make it taste good.

I liked everything!
